Electronic-indie is a popular genre at the moment, the XX for example have gained an increasing number of fans due to their recent mercury win. Their album has re-charted at an impressive 8th (Guardian), marking them an all-time high for a Mercury winner. With this I expect other similar bands to bask in their victory.
The Genre debate
Now first of all I want to air my opinion about genre. Many critics hate it, and consider it ‘backward thinking’ because it’s difficult to narrow down and define. But if we take it on face value; as a quick-hand classification tool, we can begin see that it is useful.
Trust me, I could go of forever about genre blending in music and with Bowie I could have a field day. Nevertheless, in this fast paced world we live in there is no time to stop for discussion.
