Colorado is home to a lot of open places, but getting to the high mountains is not always possible, especially if one wants a quick afternoon getaway. Golden Gate Canyon State Park, offers adventure for all throughout the year, and is close to the cities of Golden and Denver.

Getting There

Golden Gate Canyon State Park is located approximately one hour west from the city center of Denver. There are several ways to get there if coming from different cities. The park website has directions and downloadable maps.

Visitor’s Center

When arriving at the park, one should first step into the visitor center. The center offers information about the park, including natural history displays, facts about the wildlife, a conference room, and restroom facilities. It is also where visitors pay the park entrance fee, which costs $6 for a daily pass. There are also fees for backcountry camping or established tent sites, picnic areas, etc.
